About the Journal

SCOPE

The journal is founded on the principles of scientific excellence, impartiality and ethical standards, in accordance with best editorial practices. Its primary objectives are:

  • To disseminate high-quality scientific research of international significance
  • To promote academic debate and the exchange of knowledge

EDITORIAL POLICY

Editorial Independence

It is the responsibility of ATARP – Associação Portuguesa dos Técnicos de Radiologia, Radioterapia e Medicina Nuclear – to appoint and dismiss editors, and to enter into a contract with editors upon their appointment, clearly setting out their rights and duties, authority, the general terms of the appointment and the mechanisms for resolving disputes. The editor’s performance is assessed using mutually agreed indicators. Radiações Journal adopts the ICMJE definition of editorial freedom as described by the World Association of Medical Editors, which states that the editor-in-chief has complete authority over the editorial content of the journal as a whole and over the publication of its content.
ATARP, as the owner of Radiações Journal, does not interfere in the process of evaluating, selecting, scheduling or editing any manuscript, either directly or by maintaining an environment that could strongly influence the decisions. The editor bases editorial decisions on the validity of the work and its importance to readers, rather than on the commercial implications it may have for the journal, and is free to express critical yet responsible views on all aspects of health sciences and medicine without fear of reprisal.

Exclusivity

Articles submitted for publication in the Radiações journal must be original and must not have been published elsewhere. The work submitted must not be submitted simultaneously to another publication, nor must it have been published, even in part, with the exception of publications relating to academic theses or presentations of scientific papers at scientific events.

Review procedure

The Radiações journal follows a rigorous double-blind peer review process.
At the submission stage, prior to the review process, all manuscripts undergo an assessment by the editor-in-chief (this assessment may be delegated to associate editors), who may reject them without consulting the reviewers. Final acceptance is the responsibility of the editor. During the peer review process, articles may be:

  • Accepted without changes
  • Accepted with minor changes
  • Accepted with major changes
  • Rejected

Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for supervising and coordinating the scientific content of the Radiações journal, managing the editorial team and overseeing the publication process.
All submitted articles or documents are initially assessed by members of the editorial team, who carry out an initial compliance check in accordance with the instructions provided to authors. Articles and documents may be rejected at this stage without being sent to reviewers.

Responsibilities of reviewers

Reviewers assess the scientific content, methodology and results of the manuscript, as well as the significance of its publication. They prepare a report containing their opinion, in accordance with the editorial guidelines of Radiações, which includes comments and/or suggestions for the authors. All reviewers adhere to ethical standards and are required to maintain confidentiality regarding the articles submitted to them.

Authors’ responsibility

The content of the articles, as well as the opinions expressed therein, is the sole responsibility of the authors, who are required to respect and comply with the publication standards and guidelines of the Radiações journal. Furthermore, where applicable, they must ensure that approval has been obtained from an ethics committee and/or institutional authorisation.
